A 50 percent chance of snow showers and possible rain is expected throughout Tuesday as high temperatures hover near 38 degrees, the National Weather Service reports.
While the chance for precipitation will exist all day, The Weather Channel says snow will likely begin falling more heavily around 5 p.m., when the chance for it increases to 45 percent.
At least a 40 percent chance for snow is expected to stick around through the weekend, as high temperatures start dropping well below normal for this time of year beginning Thursday, when the high temperature is expected to be around 18 degrees, the weather service says.
A hazardous weather warning regarding the drop in temperature and snowfall has also been issued.
The Northeast Regional Climate Center says the normal temperature for this time of year is 34 degrees. This year has been, on average, 10 degrees above normal, breaking the record for the high temperature on Feb. 1 when it hit 56 degrees.
Only .43 of a inch of snow has fallen so far this month. By this time last year, Ithaca had 13.1 inches of snow.
