Myrick joins a list of honorees from around the United States, a group of influential Black actors, politicians, activists and entrepreneurs labeled the “NBCBLK28.

The profile cites Myrick as a living example of how, “it’s not how you start, but how you finish.”

Myrick tells NBC the story of how he lived his early life in poverty before being inducted as New York’s youngest mayor and the first person of color to hold the office in Ithaca.

In the profile, Myrick describes his life as a public servant as having been “a thrill” and “so much fun.”
