ITHACA, N.Y. — Friday night will be a dream come true for cat lovers in the Ithaca area as the Internet Cat Videos Festival kicks off at the Cornell Cinema.

According to a Facebook event invite that has garnered interest from hundreds of people, the festival will feature the following:

The latest edition of the touring Internet Cat Video Festival will feature 100 cat videos culled from nominations by the public in the categories of Comedy, Drama, Animated, Musical, Action, Vintage, and Documentary.

Patrons of this family-friendly program will be encouraged to purr on their favorites as part of this super entertaining interactive evening that will include kitty cat trivia and prizes, an on-screen parade of patrons’ own favorite felines, and a complimentary sequined cat mask for everyone!

Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening will be Asst. Prof. Leah Shafer ’94/’99/’08 (Media and Society, Hobart & William Smith College) who has written about the popularity of cat videos on the Internet (her “Cat Videos and the Aesthetics of the Superfurry” is forthcoming in Film Criticism). She will be joined by Bruce Kornreich, Associate Director for Education and Outreach at the Cornell Feline Health Center, for the pre-show activities.

The Internet Cat Video Festival is produced and curated by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.

The event start at 7 p.m. at the Cornell Cinema, located at 104 Willard Straight Hall.
