WAVERLY, N.Y – A former dance studio owner in Tioga County was sentenced Friday to 11 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting two children less than 13-years-old, officials said.

Julie Werkheiser was convicted of felonies for two counts of predatory sexual assault against a child in a trial by jury in November.

According to a news release by the Tioga County District Attorney’s office, the Waverly Police Department found that Werkheiser had oral sex with the children, who were her dance students.

The crimes were committed from July 2006 to November 2007 at Studio J Dance Studio on Broad Street, which she owned and where she also instructed classes.
