Officials said the accident happened at 10:27 p.m. on Route 13, near the intersection of Elmira Road and Burdge Hill Road.

Witnesses told police that a white sedan traveling north appeared to slide on the icy, snowy road and hit a white SUV traveling in the opposite direction in another lane.  An initial investigation seemed to confirm these facts, officials said in a news release.

The passenger of the white sedan was taken in a Bangs Ambulance to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania. Both drivers were taken to Cayuga Medical Center.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Bangs Ambulance and members of the Newfield Fire Department responded to the scene.

Officials said the crash is still under investigation.
