Jerald L. Mowery is charged with felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon after he left a Beretta Brigadier .40 caliber handgun at the Hilton Garden Inn on Dec. 30, records show.

The gun –loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition — was found in a drawer in Room 728 when Mowery called the hotel about the missing weapon. He’d checked out of the room around 10:20 a.m. and called the hotel around 1:30 p.m.

Officer Jamie Williamson said in an email, “At some point in Pennsylvania he realized that he had left a loaded handgun inside his hotel room.  He called the hotel to see if they could ship it to him.  They of course said no, so he turned around and drove back to the hotel.”

When Mowery got back to the hotel, Ithaca police took him into custody. Police said he was cooperative and presented a Texas concealed-carry gun permit.

He was released on his own recognizance after being arraigned at Ithaca City Court. A new court date is pending.
