OWEGO, N.Y. — State police said they found 643 bags of heroin during a traffic stop Thursday in Owego.

According to a news release, police said Eric J. Derrig, 33, of Waverly, was pulled over for a traffic violation on New Year’s Eve. He was traveling westbound on Route 17 around 7:55 p.m.
During the stop, troopers found 643 bags of heroin, $354 and a hypodermic needle.
Derrig is charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and numerous vehicle and traffic charges.
He was arraigned in Owego Town Court and is being held at the Tioga County Jail without bail.
