ITHACA, N.Y. — Icy road conditions caused by the worst weather of the season so far have prompted police to advise people not to unnecessarily travel today.

Officials released the following notice around 8:40 a.m.:

The Ithaca Police Department is advising that the roadways in Ithaca are currently icy and partially snow covered. There should be no unnecessary travel, especially on the hills. Several motor vehicle accidents are being investigated and traffic is backed up in several areas. The DPW crews are addressing the road conditions. All motorists should exercise due caution and care.
