ITHACA, N.Y. — The city of Ithaca was named the coffee capital of New York State in a recent report — and we’re not surprised.

In a city of 30, 399  people, there are apparently 6.9 coffee shops per 10,000 people. The Shop was listed as one of the most notable coffee places in the city.

The data was collected in honor of National Coffee Break Day on Tuesday by websites FindTheHome and FindTheCompany, which considered cities with populations of 20,000 people or more.

Ithacans already knew we were one of the best cities to get coffee, though.

In 2014, Gimme! Coffee in Ithaca was named the best place to grab a cup of Joe in New York, according to Business Insider, which wrote:

Neurotic New York City may seem like the caffeine capital of the Empire State, but it’s actually Ithaca’s award-winning Gimme! Coffee that makes the best cup. To be sure, they also have locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Gimme! also landed on a list in October, along with the Ithaca Coffee Company, as two of the best places to get coffee in the state, NewYorkUpstate.com reported.

What do the locals think about coffee in the city?

In a list of the top ranked coffee and tea shops in the city on Yelp, Gimme!, The Shop and ICC all make the list. But so does Collegtown Bagels, Coal Yard Cafe and Press Cafe, Waffle Frolic and The Old Tea House.

So while it’s freezing cold and snowing outside Thursday, at least now you know that you’re getting your caffeine fix at some of the best places in the state.
