ITHACA, N.Y. – The Tompkins County Health Department must locate a dog that bit a person walking on East Marshall Street between Linn and North Aurora Streets in the City of Ithaca. The bite occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 1, 2016.

The dog is described as a small, light-colored pit bull mix. At the time of the bite, the dog was being walked on a leash by a man with short dark hair and a beard who appeared to be approximately 5’ 5” tall.

The Department seeks to verify vaccination status and health of the biting dog.  If the dog can be located and observed to be healthy by the Department, the risk of rabies infection can be ruled out and rabies post-exposure treatment for the person who was bitten will not be necessary.

Anyone with information regarding this dog is urged to call the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at (607) 274-6688.
