CORTLAND, N.Y. — The Firefighter Winter Games are returning to upstate New York.
More than 300 firefighters from 32 fire departments across New York state are expected to take part beginning Friday, Feb. 5 in Cortland. That’s the largest field of competitors to date for the nine-year old event organized by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York and co-sponsored by the Cortland County Firemen’s Association.
The games allow fire departments to compete against one another and hone their training skills.Participants dressed in full gear will compete in several competitions, including tube races, a sled pull, and a hose relay.
The hose relay is a training ground that teaches firefighters how important it is to work together while fighting a fire.
