ITHACA, N.Y. — A Lansing has been sentenced in Tompkins County Court to five years in state prison for an assault that sent a woman to the hospital, according to a news release from the district attorney.

Larry R. Walrad, 45, pleaded guilty to the second-degree assault in November.

Here’s the account of the attack given by law enforcement:

On Aug. 24, Walrad beat the woman with a wooden rod and toilet tank top.

Afterwards, he refused to get the woman medical help and instead “tried to hide” her at the home of an acquaintance in Niagara Falls, the district attorney’s office said in a news release.

However, the acquaintance took the woman to the hospital after Walrad left the area.

“The injuries were substantial and obvious to everyone,” Judge John Rowley said in court in November.
