ITHACA, NY – This past summer, the City of Ithaca, through an action of the Parks Commission, created a Geese Working Group to examine the impacts of Canada Geese in City Parks and lands and identify a management approach to trial in Ithaca.

This group is exploring a variety of options for goose management that have been effective in other communities and plans to implement a 2-year pilot program to trial some of these techniques.

We are currently planning a kick off meeting with representatives from DEC and a group called Geese Peace to share their expertise with us on Tuesday, December 8th at 2pm. We’d like to have this first meeting before the holidays so that we are prepared to begin planning this effort during the New Year.

Where: City Hall, 108 E Green St, Ithaca, NY: Second Floor Conference Room
When: Dec 8, 2015, 2-4pm

1. Introductions and brief history
2. The Geese Peace approach – David Feld, Director of Geese Peace
3. Lessons learned from DEC- Jim Eckler, DEC
4. Timeline
5. Next steps: Next meeting, oiling training, ideas to recruit volunteers

If you have a disability that will require special arrangements to be made in order for you to fully participate in the meeting, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at (607) 274-6570.
