ITHACA, NY – The registration deadline for the First Annual Ithaca Chill Challenge is fast approaching.
This is your big chance to run into Cayuga Lake on New Year’s Day in front of cheering and adoring fans at the Ithaca Yacht Club, and also raise money for a great cause. But only registered participants will be able to do this, so get on your nearest digital device and go to ithacachillchallenge.org and sign up.
The Ithaca Chill Challenge is similar to a “Polar Bear Plunge,” but with a twist: for each participant, donors can “vote” with their $$ to either “Dip ’em” and they’ll have to run into the lake, or let ’em “Dodge” and they’ll get to stay dry and watch from the shore! On New Year’s Day at 1 p.m., the higher total for each participant prevails.
Participants include Ithaca’s Chief of Police, John Barber; well-known therapist Gepe Zurender; local entrepreneurs Ian Armiger and Chris Cowan of Press Bay Alley Café, and John Guttridge of Brightworks; and former IHS Activities Director and DeWitt Middle School teacher Judy Epstein. You can help decide whether or not to send any of them into the lake; go to ithacachillchallenge.org to “vote” with your tax-deductible donation.
Ithaca Community Recovery, Inc. is a local nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to supporting the recovery community in the Ithaca area by providing affordable and convenient meeting space at 518 West Seneca Street for 12-step and other recovery- oriented groups. Regardless of who winds up in the lake and who watches from the shore, all money raised goes directly to maintaining and improving 518 as a place where anyone dealing with addiction of any type can come for support and fellowship.
The first Annual Ithaca Chill Challenge! Registration is open now and closes on Christmas Day. Donate to any registered participant on-line at ithacachillchallenge.org or print out the form to mail in. Then come celebrate with us on New Year’s Day at the Ithaca Yacht Club at 1 p.m. Prizes for the top fund-raisers and for best costumes.
