Someone spray-painted “DIVEST” on the statue of A.D. White, Cornell’s first president, below an apparent hammer and sickle. The statue sits on the university’s Arts Quad outside of Goldwin Smith Hall

The incident follows a divestment rally held on Cornell’s campus earlier this week, in which students urged the university to divest from the fossil fuel industry.
The spray-paint had been removed by late Saturday afternoon, The Sun reported.
