Shortly after 9:30 a.m., police responded to the parking lot at 54 Port Watson Street for a report of a man ramming his truck into other vehicles in the lot.
The suspect, who has not been identified, had left family court just prior to the incident, according to an officer on scene. The officer said the man was driving a white flatbed truck when he began crashing into other vehicles.
No injuries were reported, according to Cortland County Director of Emergency Response Scott Roman.
The driver of the vehicle also damaged the porch of an apartment building at 58 Port Watson Street. Ronaldo Graham, who lives at the apartment building, was sleeping when the truck struck the apartment building.
“I heard it and felt it,” Graham said. His vehicle also suffered minor front end damage.
Others were not so lucky. Sommer Black, a probation officer for Cortland County, heard tires squealing in the parking lot from her office in the Cortland County Courthouse.
“I thought it was construction,” Black said. She went to the parking lot to find her SUV was totaled.
The personal vehicle of a captain in the sheriff’s department was also damaged.
The City of Cortland Police Department is investigating. The suspect’s name has not been released.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
