ITHACA, N.Y. — We are delighted to announce that the Ithaca Voice has hired its fourth full-time staff member.

Benjamin Torrey, a Lansing native with degrees from Tompkins Cortland Community College and Ithaca College, started working with our online-only news outlet on Monday as a videographer.
Torrey will work primarily with Advertising Director Mike Blaney to produce high-quality videos for local businesses in Ithaca and Tompkins County.
With Torrey on board, the Ithaca Voice advertising team will be better positioned to give our sponsors the ability to capture the imaginations of the readers of Ithaca’s most popular news site. This will, in turn, help our non-profit underwrite the crucial local journalism that’s essential to our mission.
Torrey’s previous work includes several sharp, sleek film productions for Ithaca Underground — check them out below! — in addition to excellent photography and eye-popping graphic design.
You can read about Torrey’s background here.
Torrey is the first new hire by the Ithaca Voice since May, when we added reporter Jolene Almendarez, previously of Syracuse.com/The Syracuse Post-Standard.
Editor Jeff Stein launched the non-profit in June 2014 and Advertising Director Mike Blaney joined in September 2014; we have also relied heavily on the contributions of several part-time writers, most notably Ithacating’s Brian Crandall and freelance writer Melissa Whitworth.
Since our founding, the Ithaca Voice has aimed to consistently produce journalism that is in-depth, enlightening, engaging, free for everyone to access, and — above all — local. Reach us anytime at firstname.lastname@example.org.
