A woman from Newfield has died after a crash that also took the life of her grandson, according to law enforcement.

Theresa Benjamin, 57, of Newfield, was killed after the wreck on Friday on state Route 14 in the Chemung County town of Ashland, according to a news release from Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.

Anthony Lyall, 3, of Rome, Pa., also died in the crash. The Elmira Star-Gazette reports that Lyall was Benjamin’s grandson.

Deputies report that Robert W. Benjamin, 53, was driving a truck that veered into a southbound lane and crashed down an embankment.

Four children, including Lyall, were in the car at the time.

Theresa Benjamin died at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., after the crash, deputies confirmed Monday.

An investigation is ongoing.
