NEWFIELD, N.Y. — Police have identified three men injured at a Newfield construction site Wednesday morning.

Bradley J. Berggren, 34, of Newfield, and  Johnny A. Sill, 65, of Spencer, were struck by a vehicle when a forklift smashed into an unoccupied truck, causing both vehicles to fall into a ditch where a culvert was being replaced.

Update: 2 airlifted to hospital after Newfield construction accident

Both men were airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Penyslvania. Hospital officials said around 10:30 a.m. Thursday that both men are in critical condition.

The forklift driver has been identified Sean P. Redman, 24, of Newfield. He was treated for minor injuries.

State police from Ithaca, Newfield firefighters and Bangs Ambulance responded to the scene around 11:20 a.m. near the intersection of Shaffer and Bower roads.

A state police official said Thursday that while the crash is still being investigated, preliminary information indicates that a mechanical problem may have contributed to the wreck.
