ITHACA, N.Y. — This past weekend the Upstate New York Chapter of the Protectors Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club presented a donation check for $3,500 to the Ithaca Police Department K9 Team.

The donation was made in memory of United States Marine Corporal Christopher Bordoni, an Ithaca native who died in 2012 as a result of injuries suffered in Afghanistan.

Corporal Bordoni’s parents, Carol and Tim Bordoni, collaborated with PLEMC in presenting the donation. The donation was presented to K9 Officer Pat Kimmich and K9 Bert at a ceremony at the IPD Training Center on Saturday September 19th.

IPD Chief John R. Barber and Deputy Chief Pete Tyler both attended the ceremony. Chief Barber and Deputy Chief Tyler were sincerely grateful for the donation as well as the show of support from the PLEMC.

Chief Barber stated “I am humbled by their generosity and unwavering support for the Ithaca Police Department, and in particular the K9 Team. To see these fine men and women donate their time and effort to enhance our K9 Team is truly inspiring.”

K9 Officer Kimmich echoed Chief Barber’s sentiments, stating “This donation means the world to Bert and I. The support these folks show us every single day is energizing. It truly warms my soul to have their support.”

Officer Kimmich advised the money will be used to enhance the K9 Team, including but not limited to purchasing K9 training equipment and maintenance supplies.

This is the second donation made by the Protectors Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club to the IPD K9 Team. Last summer the PLEMC presented a donation check for $1,000 to IPD K9 Handler Pat Kimmich and K9 Bert.
