The accident was reported around 11:20 a.m. at a construction site near the intersection of Shaffer and Bower roads.

State Police at the scene said a forklift driver lost control while traveling at a high rate of speed down a hill and hit an unoccupied town truck. Both vehicles fell into an area where a culvert is being replaced.

Two people — one town employee and a nearby homeowner — were airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania. Their condition is unknown. The male forklift driver was treated for minor injuries.

State Police, Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputies, Bangs Ambulance and Newfield firefighters responded to the scene.

This is a developing story. Check back later for more information.
