Albany, NY. — After months of delay, Governor Cuomo’s Public Service Commission (PSC) is accepting public comments on the proposed bailout of the Cayuga Power Plant. Members of the group Fossil Free Tompkins and its allies will be delivering more than 10,000 comments urging Governor Cuomo and the PSC to deny the bailout and move forward instead with necessary, cheaper and more reliable transmission upgrades.

Additionally the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) will be releasing an economic report underscoring why the Cayuga bail out is a bad deal for NYSEG customers and how we can achieve reliable, affordable electricity and protect the local community without propping up old, dirty coal-fired power.

The Cayuga Coal Plant currently receives subsidies of approximately $4 million a month and is requesting that NYSEG customers spend another $145 million to help the plant limp along economically for another ten years on the backs of New York families and businesses.
