Update Monday morning —
Law enforcement have identified a teenager as the victim of a fatal crash in Groton that occurred early Sunday morning.
Brianna D. Copes, 18, of McGraw, was killed when a vehicle she was riding in left the roadway and rolled over several times before coming to rest on an embankment on the east side of Cortland/McLean Road, police said.
The crash occurred in the town of Groton on Cortland/McLean Road at 3:42 a.m. on Sunday.
Copes was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is continuing by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit. McLean Volunteer Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance also assisted at the scene of the accident.
GROTON, N.Y. — One person is dead and two others are injured after an early Sunday morning rollover accident in the town of Groton, police said.

Police were called at 3:42 a.m. to an accident on Cortland/McLean Road, near Cortland County, where they found a vehicle that had rolled several times on an embankment along the east shoulder of the road, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
A driver and three passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. One passenger was ejected from the backseat of the vehicle and died. The driver and another passenger were taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse — the driver with injuries that are not life threatening and the passenger with unknown injuries.
A third passenger in the vehicle was uninjured.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit, McLean Volunteer Fire Department, Dryden Ambulance and Bangs Ambulance assisted at the scene.
Officials have not released the names of those involved in the accident and the cause of the rollover is being investigated.
