ITHACA, N.Y.  — Ithaca police are looking for a woman they say forced her way into an elderly man’s home, beat him and stole his wallet.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. Saturday at a home on North Cayuga Street in the Fall Creek neighborhood.

The Ithaca Police Department released the following details of the crime:

On Saturday, August 22nd, just after 9:00 PM, the Ithaca Police Department was called to respond to what was reported to have been an assault that occurred at a home on North Cayuga St. in the Fall Creek neighborhood.

Ithaca Police officers arrived and found an elderly male to have been the victim of a robbery and burglary. The victim had sustained injuries to his face, including bruising and a laceration above his left eye.

The victim described that he heard a knock at his back door and responded to greet the person.

As the victim reached the door to unsecure it, he was assaulted by a female who burst in and began striking the victim in the face repeatedly by punching him. The victim was knocked to the floor and the female continued to strike the male.

During the course of the assault, the perpetrator removed a wallet from the victim’s person which contained an undisclosed amount of money and credit cards.

The perpetrator is described as a young adult white female of average build with dark hair.

The victim was transported to Cayuga Medical Center by Bangs Ambulance to treat his injuries and for evaluation. No serious injuries were believed to have been sustained during this incident.

The Ithaca Police Department would like to remind residents to call the police regarding any suspicious behavior observed and generally recommends using caution when responding to unfamiliar visitors, and advises not to open a door for strangers.
