Update at 6:32 p.m. — Route 89 has been reopened as of 6:34 p.m., but traffic in the area is still heavily delayed.

ITHACA, N.Y. — Downed trees just outside the city of Ithaca are causing major traffic delays near the intersection of Buffalo Street and Taughannock Boulevard.

No northbound traffic is being allowed on Route 89 out of the city as of 6:17 p.m. Monday.

An officer at the scene was heard saying that multiple downed trees are to blame for the traffic delays.

Ithaca police officers and Tompkins County sheriff’s deputies are directing traffic in the area.
