Tompkins County—On Friday, Aug. 28, 121 Tompkins County nonprofits will join together to participate in Giving Is Gorges, a 24-hour online fundraising challenge.

Area nonprofits like Longview, a residential community for older adults, are looking forward to the kickoff.

“Longview is excited to be a part of Tompkins County’s first-ever day of giving because of the opportunity to shine a light on the amazing work our area nonprofits are doing every single day, humbly including our own organization’s work,” said Kerry Barnes, director of development and community relations at Longview.

“We can’t wait to see everyone come together in support of the nonprofits that make our community—and our world—a better place.”

The event will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 28 and continue until midnight. Any local nonprofits that wish to participate can do so by using the GiveGab website.

Some of the participating nonprofits include:

  • Cancer Resource Center
  • Community Foundation of Tompkins County
  • Finger Lakes ReUse
  • The Friends of Stewart Park
  • Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins and Cortland Counties
