Ducson Nguyen, who has lived in Ithaca since 2009, will be running for one of two positions representing the city’s Second Ward on Council. The Second Ward encompasses the city’s Northside and much of its Southside.
“I look forward to nurturing a balanced approach to economic development, encouraging growth while preserving neighborhood character and improving quality of life,” Nguyen said in a news release.
According to the Tompkins County Board of Elections, Isabelle M. Ramos has also filed the necessary petitions to run for the Second Ward seat as a Democrat and as a member of the Working Families Party. The current occupant of the position, JR Clairborne, does not appear to have filed to run for re-election.
Nguyen works at GrammaTech, a cybersecurity research firm in downtown Ithaca. Nguyen’s wife, Amber, is an associate professor of psychology at TC3.
Nguyen also serves on the board of Tompkins Connect and has worked with Historic Ithaca, Habitat for Humanity and the Hangar Theater, according to a news release.
“Over the last few years, I’ve gotten to know Ducson through his volunteer activities in the community, and I’ve been impressed by his intelligence, his thoughtfulness, and his commitment to Ithaca,” said Seph Murtagh, who holds the other Common Council representing the 2nd Ward, in a news release. “I am pleased to endorse Ducson Nguyen for Common Council.
