“Old Mexico,” in the former location of Manos Diner, is open for business with a menu that includes burritos, quesadillas, chimichangas, margaritas, tacos and the other expected Mexican food fare.

“We’re looking for a full-experience Mexican restaurant — full bar, full menu,” Fernando Aguirre, 31, who owns “Old Mexico” along with his brother and brother-in-law, told the Ithaca Voice in December 2014.

Here’s a handful of the early reviews:

From Old Mexico’s Facebook page —

1 — “The food was amazing. The service was OK. They are still learning and so we were patient. I read reviews about bland food and have come to realize they ordered the wrong stuff. Ours was flavorful and delicious.”

2 — “Pozole verde is perfect! Loved the remodeling, friendly staff and promising menu options.”

3 — “We were there last night and had the veggie fajitas and the chiles rellenos, and they were both delicious

From the Ithaca Voice Facebook page —

4 — “Was excited to see this open but the menu is very meat heavy. Happy to see chile rellenos on there but vegetarian selection appears limited”

5 — “Food is trash … Never again”

6 — “I went there for lunch. It was good, but didn’t compare to Viva!”

And from Yelp! —

7 — “The rice was bland and dry, but I had to eat something.  If the corn tortillas are made there, they need a lot of help, mine were very thick and dry. My husband had the carne asada, the portion seem very small for the price, we also ordered a side of guacamole, I really didn’t care for it at all, something was very off about it. I”

8 — “Still going through some opening-week growing pains as of 6/30, but the food is very good and I will definitely be going back to taste other things on the menu. Have some patience with them as they work out the kinks–the servers and management are definitely eager to please.”
