NEWFIELD, N.Y. — A man admitted in court that he was drunk when he lost control of his vehicle, causing a crash that injured his 13-year-old son.

Angelo Baez pled guilty to felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle.

He said he was drunk on Jan. 11 when he took his sister’s vehicle without her permission, hit an icy spot in the road and lost control of his vehicle. His blood alcohol content was .15.

His 13-year-old son, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was hospitalized for several days after the incident.

Assistant District Attorney Diane Lama said, as part of the plea deal, she’ll recommend a sentence for one to three years in prison, a 3-year conditional discharge, restitution for damages, revocation of his license and a $1,000 fine.

He’s in custody Elmira Correctional Facility, where he is also being held for violating his parole for a second-degree attempted robbery charge in 2011.
