ITHACA, N.Y. — A man is charged with attacking a 13-year-old girl Tuesday night in the town of Ithaca.

Garry Smith, 52, is charged with third-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree menacing.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office released the following news release about the incident:
Sheriff Lansing reports that on Tuesday, July 21st, 2015 at around 9:50 P.M, Deputies responded to the Overlook Apartments located off from Trumansburg Road in the Town of Ithaca for a report of a Domestic incident. Upon arrival, Deputies could hear an ongoing physical altercation coming from insider of an apartment. Deputies identified Garry Smith, age 52 of the Town Ithaca inside of the apartment along with a 13 year old female.
It is alleged that Smith punched, kicked, and struck the 13 year old female with wooden object during the altercation. The 13 year old was transported by Bangs Ambulance to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment of injuries she sustained during the incident. She has been treated and released from the Cayuga Medical Center.
No further information will be released in regards to the 13 year old’s name, injuries or the relationship with Smith.
Smith has been charged with Assault in the third degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, all Class A Misdemeanors and Menacing in the Third Degree, a Class Be Misdemeanor.
Smith was taken to the Town of Lansing Court and arraigned before Judge Banfield. Smith was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 secured bond.
