PRINCETON, N.J. – The United States Rowing Association has announced that rising Cornell sophomore Marco Bustamante has been selected as a member of the 59-person 2015 Under 23 National Team that will compete at the upcoming 2015 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, held from July 22-26, in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Bustamante rounds out a five-person Big Red contingent that includes current heavyweight rowers Ned Benning (men’s double scull) and Greg Davis (men’s eight), as well as Cornell alumni Collin Farrell ’05 and Matt Rung ’10, who are serving as staff members coaching the lightweight men’s four and men’s four with coxswain, respectively.
Prior to Cornell, as a member of Nautical Club of Thessaloniki, Bustamante won gold medals at the 2012 Greek National Championship in the Under 16 men’s 4- and the junior men’s 4- in 2013.
The five-day competition will feature U.S. crews in 20 events, including Bustamante in the lightweight men’s four race.
He also took silver in the senior men’s lightweight 4x and bronze in the junior men’s eight at the 2013 Greek National Championships. In the summer of 2013, Bustamante attended the US Junior National Team High Performance Camp and won a silver medal in the junior men’s 8+ and a bonze medal in the intermediate men’s 8+.
