Daniel Balmer, 45, of Johnson City, and Marguerite Malone, 35, of the same address, were injured after Balmer failed to see an “affixed object” and steered his boat into a wooden structure and metal light post off of the shore of Sheldrake Point, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Balmer suffered facial and head injuries and was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse; Malone was also injured and taken to the Syracuse hospital as well.

Both were later treated and released.

The boat — a 2005 Larson — sustained “heavy damage” and was towed to shore, according to the sheriff’s office. It was a total loss.

Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted on scene by the New York State Police, Park Police as well as Interlaken and Ovid FD.
