ITHACA, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office warned Thursday of an asphalt company that is “massively overcharging” as part of a scam in the Ithaca area.

The company is named the “R. Williams Residential & Commercial Asphalt Services,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
So far, elderly people in Lansing have been the “primary targets” in the scam, according to law enforcement.
“Please be advised: The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn community members of a scam that has been currently plaguing the area,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
“If anyone has any information about the R. Williams Company please contact our non-emergency line and ask to speak to an officer to file a report; 607-272-2444. Thank you for your assistance.”
