In honor of this very special milestone, and in appreciation of the community’s continued support for the Welcome Baby Book, Family Reading Partnership invites everyone to celebrate with a fabulous and free community event:

Caterpillar Birthday Party in the Garden!
Saturday, June 6th from 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Special Program at 2:30 pm
Ithaca Children’s Garden at Cass Park

This fun, free, family event will feature caterpillar activities and crafts, gardening fun, read-aloud, and birthday treats courtesy of Wegmans. A special program at 2:30 pm will recognize the funder, Tompkins Trust Company, and Cayuga Medical Center, two community partners who have helped place “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” into the hearts and homes of families with babies for 20 incredible years. The program will also include a special caterpillar song written and sung by John Simon, and a group read-aloud of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”

During the program at 2:30, Erin Marteal, Executive Director of Ithaca Children’s Garden, and Brigid Hubberman, Executive Director of Family Reading Partnership, will announce the beginning of a new and exciting “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” partnership between Ithaca Children’s Garden and Family Reading Partnership.

Over 18,000 babies, an entire generation of children, have grown up with this heart-warming tale that Eric Carle himself feels is a perfect fit for the cause, saying, “Ultimately, this is a story about hope. That everything will grow up, be beautiful and unfold its talents.”

Family Reading Partnership is grateful to Tompkins Trust Company for 20 years of continuous sponsorship and to Cayuga Medical Center for delivering this very special gift to new families since 1995.

Special thanks to those in the community who have helped make the Caterpillar Birthday Party in the Garden possible: Ithaca Children’s Garden for hosting; Wegmans for a very generous donation of birthday treats; Cayuga Compost for a donation of their services; and B & W Supply Company for their donation of goods.
