The accident happened around 6:10 p.m. at the intersection of Iradell and Sheffield roads, within several feet of the town of Enfield, a Tompkins County 911 dispatcher said.
A Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office deputy at the scene said a woman driving a silver Volvo on Sheffield Road drove past a stop sign and hit a black car. The black car skid and rolled over into nearby trees and bushes on Iradell Road.
The driver was conscious when he was taken to Cayuga Medical Center with minor injuries, the deputy said.
The female driver and a 7-year-old in the Volvo were not injured.
Steve Magacs – who owns a home on the corner of the intersection – said he was nearly home from work when he saw a woman and child on the roadway flagging him down. The woman asked him to call 911.
“There was no other sign (of the wreck) until we got there,” he said, gesturing toward the black, overturned vehicle. As they approached the car, he said he heard an alarm blaring and a person inside calling for help.
Deputies, Ithaca police and a Bangs Ambulance arrived at the scene shortly afterward.
A sergeant at the scene said the incident is being investigated.
