Ithaca, NY — To open its 2015 Season, the Hangar Theatre will present God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton, from June 11 until June 20, 2015.
This over the top comedy is directed by Hangar Theatre alum Steve Pacek, who was a crowd favorite as Seymour Krelborn in last summer’s hit production of Little Shop of Horrors.
God of Carnage is a comedy of manners, without the manners that is especially relatable to those who are parents. Join the cast, crew, and Hangar staff on opening night, Friday, June 12 at 8pm at the Hangar Theatre, located at 801 Taughannock Blvd, Ithaca, NY 14850 in Cass Park. God of Carnage is recommended for mature audiences.
What’s the play about?
This play tells the story of what happens when two sets of parents meet following an incident involving their 11 year olds sons on the playground. Their children’s altercation involves one boy getting his tooth knocked out, their parents meet to discuss what had happened. Conflicting personalities bring out the worst in these couples as they soon prove that they are just as bad as their children.
God of Carnage features Hillary Parker, Amy Tribbey, as well as Brendan Powers who previously taught with the Hangar Theatre’s Project 4, and William Langan who previously taught as an acting professor at Ithaca College Theatre Arts, all of whom are making their Hangar Theatre acting debut.

Tickets start at $20 and can be purchased online at www.HangarTheatre.org, by phone at (607) 273-ARTS (2787), or in person Hangar Theatre Box Office at the theatre (Mon-Sat between 12pm and 6pm) and one hour before curtain time. William Langan (Michael) previous credits include six years at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (partial list): Titus Andronicus, Julius Caesar, Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Winter’s Tale, Twelfth Night, Richard II, Troilus & Cressida, Henry VI parts 1-3, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Oedipus Complex, Trojan Women, Three Sisters. Other theatres include: The Shakespeare Theatre (D.C.), Studio Arena, Huntington Theatre, Cleveland PlayHouse, Pioneer Theatre, Philadelphia Theatre Company, McCarter Theatre, Rubicon Theatre, Yale Rep, and three years at The Guthrie Theatre. Brendan Powers (Alan) is glad to return to Ithaca, where he taught with the Hangar’s Project 4program in 2012. That same year he performed the role of Dorian in Opus at the Kitchen Theatre. Credits include Around the World in 80 Days, The Fantasticks, Doubt, Boeing-Boeing, The Glass Menagerie, Dial M for Murder, and Born Yesterday with the Florida Repertory Theatre. Other credits include the Tony Award-winning play Art and The Big Knife, both with Alec Baldwin; and the Noel Coward revue Oh, Coward! at Off-Broadway’s Irish Repertory Theatre. TV work includes Graceland, the Netflix original series Bloodline, and a series of national commercials for Alabama Road Trips. His cartoon captions have been winners for various contests including The New Yorker, Hartford Courant, Denver Post, Clinical Advisor, Moment Magazine, Inside Higher Ed and the Greensboro News-Record.
