State police deputies were called to Meyers Park in Lansing at 2:51 p.m. after a caller reported the incident, a Tompkins County 911 dispatcher said. Officials gathered on the opposite side of the lake because it was closer to the kayaker.

The Trumansburg, Ithaca and Lansing fire departments responded to the scene, along with Bangs Ambulance and Trumansburg Ambulance.

The man was rescued from the water by a Trumansburg volunteer firefighter who happened to be on the lake in his boat, heard the dispatch and helped the kayaker, the dispatcher said.
