Learn How Ithaca Hummus Makes Its Magic
Here’s the rescue as recounted by a news release:
Two women out for a walk around 9:43 a.m. on Sunday saw a mother duck and her 11 ducklings crossing Route 13.
As the mother entered the street, her ducklings followed. But whereas the mother managed to get across OK, “the nearby storm drain grate created a bit of an obstacle for the ducklings, and one by one they fell into the storm drain.” (One of the 11 ducklings managed to stay with the mom.)
The two women walking on Route 13 called 911 and the Ithaca Police Department responded.
They couldn’t remove the storm drain, so the Ithaca Fire Department and FingerLakes towing were also called.
“Once the proper tools were on scene, the grate was removed,” the news release says, “and 10 ducklings were rescued from the storm drain and reunited with mom.”
