Learn How Ithaca Hummus Makes Its Magic

“Ithaca Farmers Market Cookbook,” first published in 2010, is now on sale at the local weekend market in a “Limited Collector’s Edition,” with each individually-numbered book celebrating one of the country’s most influential farmers’ markets including 65 vendor profiles, 100 market-inspired recipes, and 140 photographs.

Most significantly, the book was written, recipe-tested, photographed, edited, printed and bound in keeping with locavore doctrine – all within a 30-mile radius of Ithaca.

The book has come to the attention of chef and Slow Food Activist Alice Waters who wrote, “Buying from farmers markets not only promotes edible education for children and adults alike, but also stabilizes a local economy and introduces people to a variety of culinary cultures. With delicious recipes and charming stories, the ‘Ithaca Farmers Market Cookbook’ demonstrates the importance of fresh, seasonal and sustainable ingredients.”

The “Ithaca Farmers Market Cookbook” lists for $24.95 with proceeds benefiting the continuing mission of the Market.

About the Author: For nearly three decades, Michael Turback championed the regional food and wine of New York’s Finger Lakes at his legendary restaurant, Turback’s of Ithaca.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine named Turback’s “one of the wine-friendliest restaurants in America” and the restaurant’s daring all-local lineup was awarded “Best American Wine List” by Restaurant Business Magazine. A true “local movement” pioneer, Michael’s efforts sparked trends that are seen throughout the hospitality industry today.
