Looking for something meaningful to do on Memorial Day?

Spend Monday, May 25 in the Ithaca City Cemetery (ICC) on University Avenue for a morning of trash pick-up, headstone resetting, monument repair, and tree trimming.

The 5th Annual Memorial Day Clean-Up at ICC takes place from 9AM to noon, and is a family-friendly event held in Ithaca’s oldest cemetery. Join the Friends of the Ithaca City Cemetery, Fall Creek neighbors, and students in the old burial ground and “modern” Victorian rural cemetery located on the edge of the Cornell campus.

Tasks are age-appropriate and open to a wide range of skills. Supervisors will be on-site to teach proper stone cleaning methods and respectful treatment of the headstones.

Meet at the University Avenue (downhill) entrance to the cemetery at 9AM and wear old clothes. Tools will be provided but bring your own gardening gloves if you have them. If you only have an hour to volunteer, that’s fine – your interest and participation is welcome for however long you have.

Questions? Contact Sara Johnson at Historic Ithaca, Inc., (607) 273-6633. Visit http://www.historicithaca.org/ficc/ to find out more about the Friends, the Ithaca City Cemetery, and Historic Ithaca.
