Visitors to the Wood Street Park, located at the corner of Wood Street and South Meadow Street, will notice a new fence going up next to the existing 21,000 square foot skate park.

The skate park is being expanded by 6,000 square feet. Nelson and Streeter Construction, the general contractor on this project, began working with Whitmore Fence on May 21, 2015, to secure the construction zone.

Here are some of the park’s renderings:

Next week, the general contractor will begin preparing the site with drainage and sub-base/base work. Hardcore Skateparks, a specialty contractor, will begin in mid-June with pouring concrete/shotcrete to create the new park. The project is projected to be completed in two months.

This $324,650 project has been made possible by a number of funding sources, including New York State Parks, Tompkins County Tourism, Ithaca Urban Renewal Agency (IURA), and community fundraising spearheaded by the TEM Skate fund. Grindline designed the expansion park.
