The Varna Community Association is seeking volunteers to assemble the new playground during a community build event May 13-17th. Designed by local company Play By Design, the playground will provide children of all ages and abilities with a place for active and creative play in a natural setting.

Located behind the historic Varna Community Center, the nearly 400 square foot play area will feature two playhouses, a maze, a climbing wall and a climbing forest, as well as a variety of swings, slides, monkey bars and ropes. Partially shaded by the woodland area it abuts and with access to a small creek, the new playground has the potential to provide hours of entertainment during the hot summer months.

During the five-day building event, Play by Design will lead shifts of volunteers as they dig, saw and hammer the playground into place. “Materials, tools, nourishing meals and even childcare will be provided to our volunteers”, says Jan Morgan, chair of the Varna Community Association, “all we need now is for people to sign up!” All in all, 230 volunteer slots will need to be filled to complete this project.

The build will conclude with an opening ceremony on Sunday, May 17th at 5pm, with music, barbecue and a chance for the children to explore the new playground for the first time. You can learn more about the project, view the playground design and sign up for a shift or two by visiting http://www.varnacommunityassociation.org/. Available shift times are 8am-noon, 12:30-4:30pm and 5-8pm.
