Ithaca, N.Y. — A gentle coating of snow fell over much of the Central New York region, including Ithaca, late last night and early this morning.

Residents (and local newspaper editors) were surprised to awake to snow outside their doors. (The National Weather Service hadn’t said as of 10 a.m. how much had fallen, but even a dusting seems unusual at this late date.)

At least’s Sean Kirst is able to find a white lining: The snowfall might help Syracuse win the national Golden Snow Globe contest, in which the city with the most snow is declared winner. We admit to being a little confused what he’s so excited about.
