Residents (and local newspaper editors) were surprised to awake to snow outside their doors. (The National Weather Service hadn’t said as of 10 a.m. how much had fallen, but even a dusting seems unusual at this late date.)

At least Syracuse.com’s Sean Kirst is able to find a white lining: The snowfall might help Syracuse win the national Golden Snow Globe contest, in which the city with the most snow is declared winner. We admit to being a little confused what he’s so excited about.
