In celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day this year, the Newfield Community Garden Project and the Newfield Athletic Department are planning a volunteer work day at the school on Saturday, April 25th.

Activities will include:

  • Preparing the new swimming pool garden for planting
  • Planting fruit trees
  • Sheet mulching
  • Expanding the garden in the high school courtyard and preparing it for planting
  • General campus clean-up

We are very excited about this opportunity to bring the Newfield community together for a great cause!  We are currently looking for volunteers who would be willing to help.  The event will take place from 10am to 5pm and lunch will be provided to all volunteers.  If you would like to take part in this event please contact Andrew Battles or Jeff Augustine using the contact information below.  If you are not available for the entire day, please specify what time slot would work for you.

In addition to volunteers to work, we are in need of donated materials as well.  If you cannot come and join us in person, consider lending us some tools or other gardening materials to help facilitate this event.  We are working on finalizing a more definite list of materials, but generally we will need:

  • cardboard (preferably large)
  • shovels
  • digging forks
  • mattocks
  • wheelbarrows
  • metal rakes
  • soil
  • compost

If you have access to any of these items, please let us know.  Thank you in advance for your support of this initiative and we hope to see you on April 25th!
