8th International Record Store Day coming to downtown Ithaca

by Jeff Stein April 13, 2015

International Record Store Day (RSD) is an internationally celebrated day observed the third Saturday of April each year. Its purpose is to celebrate the culture of the independently owned record stores. Bringing together staff, customers, fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores across the globe, it is a day for these people to come together and celebrate the unique culture of the record store and the special role they play in their communities.

Special vinyl releases are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists across the globe make special appearances and performances. This year, the 8th RSD, will be held on Saturday April 18th and Angry Mom Records in downtown Ithaca is the place to join the party!

Now in its sixth year of operation, Angry Mom Records will once again be the regional destination for those looking to pick up one (or more!) of the approximately 400 official, exclusive releases scheduled worldwide for RSD 2015. Angry Mom owner George Johann explains: “There were approximately 10 official releases for the first RSD in 2008 and this number has risen exponentially each year to the staggering amount of limited edition titles we have this year. It’s a tremendous amount of work keeping on top of what’s being released and trying to get everything for the store”.

“Releases this year range from a 5 LP Grateful Dead box set to a Small Faces 7″ (limited to only 400 copies worldwide). I’m predicting that the most indemand titles this year are going to be Phish, Bob Dylan, The Zombies, Grizzly Bear, Vampire Weekend, Run The Jewels, Metallica, Swans, and an unhinged prewar gospel collection called When I Reach That Heavenly Shore”, explains Johann. Other notable pieces this year include:staunch RSD supporters The Flaming Lips (releasing 3 seperate 10″ eps); the awesome The Lego Movie soundtrack; The White Stripes “Get Behind Me Satan” (first ever commercial vinyl release);the Complete Ork Singles box set.

For a complete list of official RSD releases please visit recordstoreday.com If all the exciting record releases weren’t enough, once again, Angry Mom will be hosting the cream of the regional crop with 8 bands/artists performing live in the store throughout the day. Performing will be Alan Rose & the Restless Elements, Ithaca Bottom Boys, King Sized Pegasus, Dream Team, Eamon & The Fulcrums, Izzy True, Why the Wires and The New York Rock.

Angry Mom Records is at 115 The Commons (in the basement of Autumn Leaves bookstore), Ithaca, New York. The store will open at 10am (though people will be waiting in line much earlier than that!) and close at 8pm on Saturday April 18th 2015.
