Ithaca, N.Y. — The Ithaca Fire Department sent out the following news release on Sunday afternoon:

“The Ithaca Fire Department is proud to announce that Firefighter Russell T. Vidler was named the 2015 Drill Sergeant of the Year for the US Army’s 98th Training Division.

“Russ completed a wide variety of grueling physical and mental challenges at Fort Huachuca, Az. Firefighter Vidler, husband and father of three, balances his time between the Ithaca Fire Department and in the U.S. Army, serving both his community and his country.”
