Ithaca, N.Y. — Zac Peterson was so amped up from the Patriots’ Super Bowl victory last night that he celebrated in true New Englander fashion: With a 3 a.m. sled ride.

“I was on my stomach, and I had one hand steering me and the other was holding phone,” says Peterson, a Cornell senior who is also an Ithaca Voice photographer.

Peterson took his sled down from the top of Buffalo Street west toward downtown Ithaca. (Peterson emphasized that he checked to make sure he was safely out of the way of all cars; he probably should have been watchful of vengeful Seahawks fans, too.)

Peterson estimated the distance of his journey at about a half-mile.

Here’s a video from one of his runs:

“I did it like 10 times — I was up until 4 (a.m.) in the morning,” Peterson said.

Peterson said that he hadn’t had any alcohol all night but was on a high from the Patriots’ victory. A Vermont native, he said he knew that sledding would be the right way to celebrate.

Even after a few runs additional runs down Buffalo Street, the euphoric night hadn’t worn off.

“All that put me in such a wintry mood that I shoveled out my apartment building’s driveway,” he said in a Facebook post, “even though I don’t know any of the people who use it.”
