Ithaca, N.Y. — Snowy roads have caused about 25 car accidents by about 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Tompkins County 911 Dispatch Center.

“The roads are a mess,” one dispatcher said. “People need to be careful out there.”
Some notes from talking with the dispatch center:
— Between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. there were about 15 accidents. The number of crashes dipped from then until around 11 a.m. but have since picked up, according to the dispatchers.
— 1 person was taken to the hospital after a crash on Route 13 early this morning. The injuries did not sound serious.
— On East Shore Drive around 1:30 p.m., a tractor trailer slid, almost hit a house and took out electrical wires and phone lines, according to the dispatch center.
“Then there was another accident because everybody’s got to stop,” dispatchers said.
— There was a crash this morning on Route 13 involving a log truck and a few other vehicles. No serious injuries.
— The vast majority of accidents involve one-car crashes with cars sliding into ditches or off the road.
— There were a number of accidents on Route 13 around 1:30 p.m.
