Christopher M. Merkley, 25, of Ithaca, and Tyrone A. Freeman, 38, of New York City, have both been charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.
The arrest occurred on the 300 block of Spencer Road. Police officers found the drugs in the driver’s compartment of the vehicle, which was being driven by Freeman (Merkley sat in the passenger’s seat).
“Said narcotics were located with numerous packaging materials,” an accusatory filed by Ithaca police Officer Kevin Slattery states.
Drugs were also found in Merkley’s “front rights pants pocket,” according to court documents. “Said substances were field tested by Officer Tomberelli and tested positive for heroin and cocaine, respectively.”
Additional drugs were also found on Freeman, according to court records. Freeman had heroin “inside his underwear in his crotch area,” according to police.
A test later done of the seized “off-white powdery substance” confirmed that it was heroin, according to court documents.
