“Snow will move into the area from the west late today and spread across all of central NY and northeast PA this evening,” the NWS says.

The silver lining is that the snow may raise overall temperatures from their low doldrums (2 degrees right now).

Finger Lakes Weather gave a more precise reading of when the snow can be expected to begin.

“A little ice is possible this afternoon as the precipitation starts. Friday will turn cold and blustery. While the snow amounts aren’t high, travel will still become a bit tricky, so take it slow!,” the site said.
